The Down Syndrome Connection seeks to optimize the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome by offering direct services to them and their caregivers and by educating the general public about the special concerns and unique contributions of the Down syndrome community. Volunteer with classes acting as assistant for teachers sometimes working one-on-one with students helping to set up and clean-up. Also helping with fundraisers and one time events. Must make a full time commitment of 90 min. a week for a year (important!!). Or you may make a weekend commitment once for a special event. Attend volunteer training. Weekdays Volunteer training On the job training Becoming educated in the reality of Down syndrome today. Learning social skills for aiding people with Down syndrome (e.g. Communication skills) and organization skills.
The Down Syndrome Connection is passionate and dedicated to encouraging the unlimited potential in children and adults with Down syndrome throughout the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998. Their mission is to empower, inspire and support people with Down syndrome, their families and the community that serves them, while fostering awareness and acceptance in all areas of life.
They pride themselves on developing services that are in line with their members’ needs and continuously break down barriers to success by providing resources, technology and education through our direct services. Their Down Syndrome Education Alliance, Expression Connection and Communication Readiness Programs, as well as Peer Development Classes, Medical Outreach Alliance, public policy outreach, education advocacy, new parent outreach, support groups and more reflect the diverse needs of our members.
