The purpose of the Bay Area Crisis Nursery is to prevent abuse and neglect of young children by providing support to families who are under stress or in crisis.  For those 18 and over: Taking care of children from families in crisis. Mostly playing with them and giving them lots o’ love.  For those 15-18: Office work is greatly needed.  There is a wide variety from computer entry to filing to gift wrapping!  In general volunteers must be 18 years old to work directly with children.  This program requires a minimum or 30 hours time commitment; space is limited.  They also have tutoring opportunities with children ages 6-11 as a volunteer for Dahlstrom House, their older children’s home.

Their nonprofit organization has two sites providing 24-hour residential care for children: the Nursery for children birth through age five, and the Dahlstrom House for children age six through eleven. Here children receive shelter, food, clothing, toys and tender care while parents develop a plan of action to resolve the crisis and / or alleviate the stress.

BACN believes that child abuse is preventable. Helping parents in crisis before an incident occurs is our core tenet. As a result of the support they provide, they are able to help parents and their children grow into a healthy family with a minimum of stress.
